The Five Elements

Feng shui sees every space through five patterns of energy.
Not as a checklist. As a living system. When the elements are in balance, you feel it. When something is off, you feel that too.
Here is a simple way to understand each one.
This is growth energy.
Think of spring, of things finally starting to move. Wood in a space makes you feel motivated, alive, like there is possibility in the room. When it is missing, things feel stuck. When there is too much, everything feels like it is pushing.
Colours: Green, teal, blue-green.
Shapes: Tall, vertical, upward lines.
Wood

This is the energy of warmth and visibility.
It draws people in. It makes a space feel alive and worth being in. Too little and a room feels flat. Too much and it starts to feel like somewhere you cannot quite relax.
Colours: Red, orange, fuchsia, vivid purple.
Shapes: Triangles, points, angular forms.
Fire

This is grounding energy.
The feeling of being held, of things making sense, of coming home to yourself. Earth is what makes a space feel safe. Without it, nothing quite settles, no matter how beautiful the room is.
Colours: Yellow, terracotta, brown, warm cream.
Shapes: Low, square, solid, heavy forms.

Metal

This is the energy of clarity.
When Metal is balanced in a space, you can think. Things feel organised without feeling cold. It is the difference between a room that focuses you and one that just feels empty.
Colours: White, soft grey, gold, silver.
Shapes: Circles, curves, clean lines, minimal forms.
This is the energy of depth and rest.
The kind of quiet that actually restores you. Water in a space slows things down in the best way. It is reflective, intuitive, and when it is right, you exhale.
Colours: Black, dark blue, deep navy, charcoal.
Shapes: Waves, flowing and organic forms.
